Sangrur, 25 September 2026: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised the 5th CII Northern Region Innovative Farmers Meet in Sangrur, Punjab, to promote innovation, crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices aimed at improving farm productivity and incomes. The programme brought together farmers, industry representatives, agricultural experts and government stakeholders for knowledge-sharing and meaningful engagement.
Addressing the gathering, Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Hon’ble Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Government of Punjab, highlighted the importance of innovation and modern agricultural practices in strengthening the farming sector. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of Punjab’s farmers to the growth of Indian agriculture. “Punjab’s farmers have always been at the forefront of agricultural progress. It is important that we continue to encourage innovation, new technologies and sustainable practices to ensure better productivity and incomes for our farmers,” he said.
Dr Harbans Singh Sidhu, Chief Agriculture Officer, Moga, Kotkapura and Sangrur districts, Punjab, emphasised the importance of adopting scientific and innovative approaches suited to local conditions, while encouraging farmers to explore new technologies and practices to improve productivity and profitability. Dr Harpreet Singh Nibber, Chairman, CII Punjab and Managing Director & CEO, Pritika Auto Industries Limited, was also present at the occasion, reinforcing the role of industry in facilitating knowledge exchange and supporting collaborative efforts towards strengthening the agricultural ecosystem.
The event also witnessed participation from several industry representatives and experts who interacted with farmers on various aspects of contemporary agriculture, including innovative farming practices, crop diversification, efficient resource utilisation, technology adoption and sustainable agricultural solutions. The discussions provided farmers with practical insights and opportunities for direct knowledge-sharing with industry and technical experts.
A key highlight of the programme was the recognition of eight villages across various districts of Punjab for their progressive work in agriculture. The felicitation acknowledged innovative farming practices and efforts towards adopting progressive approaches that contribute to a more sustainable and productive agricultural sector.
