BJP Raises Concerns Over the Problems Faced by Auto and Magic Cab Drivers

Delegation of Drivers Meets BJP State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra

Chandigarh, 17 July —
A large delegation of auto and magic cab drivers met BJP Chandigarh State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra today to present their pressing issues.

The delegation, comprising nearly 100 school auto drivers, was led by District President Bhupendra Singh Saini, General Secretaries Ram Shukla and Rajesh Singla, Ward No. 9 President Satish Shukla, and Mandal General Secretary Rajesh Paswan.

The drivers informed that they transport hundreds of schoolchildren daily, ensuring their safe commute to and from schools. They particularly cater to children admitted under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, offering their services at minimal fares. They emphasized that these services are not just professional but also part of their social responsibility, especially for families that cannot afford private transport.

They also highlighted that their vehicles reach narrow and congested lanes where school buses cannot operate, making their service essential for many neighborhoods.

However, the drivers expressed serious concern over the recent actions by the State Transport Authority (STA), which, without prior notice, has been impounding vehicles and issuing heavy challans ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹36,000. This sudden enforcement has severely impacted their livelihood.

State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra listened to their concerns attentively and assured them that the BJP will strongly raise their legitimate issues with the concerned authorities and the Administrator. He reiterated that the party stands firmly with the working class, the poor, and ordinary citizens and remains committed to protecting their rights.
