Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. in collaboration with Chandigarh Renewable Energy Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) is the winner in the Urban Learnathon 2023 under the category of “Union Territories” for Solar installation in the city and received the first prize today on 31st Oct 2023 in the “National Urban Conclave” hosted by the National Institute of Urban Affairs on the occasion of “World Cities Day” at New Delhi.

The Conclave was graced by Shri. Hardeep Singh Puri, Honorable Union Minister, Govt. of India. The prize was distributed by Shri. Kunal Kumar, Joint Secretary & Mission Director, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

​​Chandigarh was selected as the Model Solar City and the Master Plan was approved by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), GOI in Feb. 2012. Chandigarh was also identified as a Model Solar City by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), GOI.

​Chandigarh is a land locked city, inspite of that Chandigarh Administration have installed SPV Power Plants on Rooftops, Carport parking sheds and Floating SPV Power Plants in coordination with Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. Chandigarh is well ahead in terms of achievement & total aggregate capacity of 58.09 MWp Grid tied Rooftop Solar Plants at 4566 sites have already been installed & commissioned in Chandigarh.

​​Sh. Dharampal, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh appreciated the efforts of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd and CREST in achieving this milestone and further added that with this pace, Chandigarh can achieve the dream target of Govt. of India to become 100% RE powered in near future.

Sh. T.C. Nautiyal, Secretary Science & Technology and Renewable Energy, U.T., Chandigarh congratulated the Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and CREST team for making sincere efforts in producing Green Power for the city.

Arulrajan P., Director Science & Technology and Renewable Energy – cum – CEO, CREST informed that this is a proud moment for Chandigarh that a small territory has competed with other UTs of India and got this award. He further informed that, Chandigarh could win this award with active support and participation of the people at large in implementation of the projects.

The award ceremony was attended by Ms. Anindita Mitra, Municipal Commissioner – cum – CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd., Sh. Arulrajan, Director Science & Technology and Renewable Energy – cum – CEO, CREST, Sh. N.P. Sharma, Chief General Manager, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and Sh. Sukhwinder Singh Abrol, Project Director, CERST.
