CII Chandigarh Fair 2023: Honouring Small Business Owners from Across India

Chandigarh, 3 November 2023 — The CII Chandigarh Fair 2023 is not just a marketplace; it’s a celebration of entrepreneurship, culture, and craftsmanship. At the heart of this extravagant event are the small business owners, whose diverse backgrounds and inspiring stories contribute to the cultural richness of the fair.

This year, the fair showcases the extraordinary journeys of small business owners who have travelled from other cities to be part of this vibrant celebration. Their stories are as diverse as their businesses, and they offer a glimpse into the deep-rooted traditions and entrepreneurial spirit that define their regions.

One remarkable story at the fair is that of “Uncle Spices,” a father-and-son duo, Satinder Pal Singh, and his son, Damanjeet Singh, hailing from Mohali. Their journey started with a passion for spices, and through hard work and dedication, they transformed their small business into a thriving enterprise, offering a wide range of aromatic spices that have become a household name.

Satinder Pal Singh, a retired banker, spent 15-20 years studying spices, inspired by his mother’s expertise. “Uncle Spices” is a brand deeply rooted in tradition and the pursuit of excellence. They select 39 prime spices, grind them with care, and package them meticulously, ensuring both flavour and medicinal benefits.

Their production process is a labour of love, featuring minimalistic machines that aim for the utmost refinement. “Uncle Spices” employs cold grinding techniques to preserve the nutritional value of their spices. Supported by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), they offer 7 special spices, including Kebab Cheeni and Stone Flower.

In addition to “Uncle Spices,” the fair also features two artisans under the Punjab Industries Department and SIDBI, who have been creating exquisite wooden chess pieces and boards since 1968. Originating from Amritsar, they source boxwood from Bihar, ebony from the South, and shisham from Punjab. Another stall from Hoshiarpur specializing in crafting wooden showpieces like trays and stools, is presenting products that are meticulously engraved using CNC machines, and their mission goes beyond business – providing employment to women and children.

More can be explored at the 26th edition of CII Chandigarh Fair – as we delve into the world of handicrafts and passionately curated products. The Fair is on at Parade Ground, Sector-17, Chandigarh till 6 November 2023, 8pm.
