The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan D.A.V. College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Citizens Awareness Group, successfully organized an interactive session titled “Think Before You Click,” a Consumer Awareness Programme on Quality of Service and Cyber Hygiene under the aegis of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on 19 February, 2026. The programme aimed to promote cyber hygiene, digital vigilance, and consumer awareness among students.

The session featured Shri Surinder Verma, Chairman, Citizens Awareness Group, and Ms. Mohinder Kour Kataria, Motivational Speaker and General Secretary, Citizens Awareness Group, who emphasized consumer rights, public awareness, and responsible digital conduct. Shri Deepak Singh, DSP, Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh, addressed the gathering and spoke on cyber safety from the perspective of law enforcement and human rights, sensitizing students about emerging cybercrimes such as phishing, sextortion, identity theft, and online fraud, while also explaining legal remedies and reporting mechanisms available to victims. Industry perspectives were shared by Shri Dev Chauhan, Compliance Manager (Punjab State), Airtel, who discussed safe telecom practices and compliance measures, and Shri Sanjiv Vohra, BGM, Reliance Jio, who highlighted the role of telecom service providers in strengthening digital security. Representatives from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Shri Ashish and Shri Pankaj Khanna, were also present to highlight the importance of secure and reliable connectivity in today’s digital landscape.

 

Students were introduced to the TRAI DND application as a practical tool to manage unwanted communications and enhance consumer protection in the telecom sector. The programme concluded on a strong note of awareness and responsibility.

The College Principal Mrs Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the NSS Units and collaborating organizations for organizing this impactful session and appreciated their commitment towards empowering students for a safe and secure digital future.
