Terrorism is a threat to national security, but harassing innocent students—who are citizens of India—is not patriotism. It is injustice.
Today, Mr. Isherpreet Singh, President of NSUI Punjab, addressed a press conference regarding a recent incident in which a Kashmiri female student was reportedly harassed in Punjab. He strongly condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over the fact that no FIR has been registered by the police, even days after the matter came to light.
Mr. Singh emphasized that such acts create fear and insecurity among students from Jammu & Kashmir, which is a proud and integral part of India. He reiterated that Kashmiri students are equal citizens of this nation and deserve the same protection, respect, and sense of belonging as anyone else.
He further pointed out that just a few days ago, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the DGP Punjab held a press conference stating that Punjab is on high alert due to national security concerns. Despite such heightened awareness, this incident occurred—raising questions about the effectiveness of state measures and the seriousness with which such cases are being handled.
Mr. Singh has appealed to the Director General of Police, Punjab, to intervene immediately in this case and ensure that an FIR is registered without delay. He demanded that those responsible be identified and held accountable under the law.
He stated, “How can we claim to be a united nation when students, who have come here for education and growth, are made to feel unsafe? Kashmir is not separate from India—Kashmir is India. Harassing its youth is a betrayal of our national values.”
Mr. Singh concluded by affirming NSUI’s unwavering support for the rights and safety of every student across India. He called for solidarity over suspicion, and urged authorities to act swiftly to ensure such incidents do not recur.
