In a heart-wrenching yet inspiring gesture of humanity, the family of 33-year-old Jatinder Singh, a school bus driver from Fatehgarh Sahib, made the brave decision to donate his organs following his tragic demise. PGIMER Chandigarh facilitated the noble act, ensuring that his heart, kidneys, and liver gave a new lease on life to those in critical need.
Jatinder Singh , a resident of Vill. Anaitpura, Saidpura, Fatehgarh Sahib, met with a devastating road traffic accident on February 12, 2025, which resulted in severe head injuries. Despite the relentless efforts of medical professionals at PGIMER, he was declared brain dead on February 22, 2025, following the mandatory brain stem death certification procedures.
With immense courage and a deep sense of altruism, Jatinder Singh’s father, Sh. Kesar Singh, consented to organ donation, turning an unbearable personal loss into a beacon of hope for multiple families. His heart, both kidneys, and liver were successfully retrieved and transplanted into critically ill patients at PGIMER, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to saving lives through cadaveric organ donation.
Speaking on this act of supreme generosity, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, remarked, “Organ donation is the purest expression of humanity, where loss transforms into hope. Expressing his emotions, Sh. Kesar Singh, father of the donor , said, “Losing a son is unbearable, but knowing that he continues to live on through others gives us strength. If his donation can save lives, it is the least we can do to honor his memory.”
