BIS Organises Manak Manthan Meeting on Draft Indian Standard on Mid-Day Meal
Bureau of Indian Standards, Northern Regional Office, organised a Manak Manthan programme on Draft Indian Standard Code for Hygienic Conditions Required for Preparation and Supply of Foods/Meals in Schools Doc No. FAD 15 (24027) WC December 2023 on 03 January 2024 at National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, Sector 26, Chandigarh. The programme was organised to commemorate 77th foundation day of BIS.
Shri Saurabh Tiwari, Scientist-E & Head, Haryana Branch Office welcomed all the participants present in the meeting and apprised about the programme objectives. Shri Rajiv P. Dy. Director General(North) in his inaugural address emphasized the importance of Manak Manthan programme as it takes the technical discussion on the standard to the actual stakeholders. He also informed the participants about the various promotional activities being carried out by BIS for the benefit of the end user.
Shri Vishal Kalia, Principal Chandigarh Institute of Hotel management, Chief Guest of the programme, shared the institute’s 25 years of experience of manufacturing mid-day meals for schools. He discussed the various parameters like nutritional requirements, menu preparation, cleaning & sanitation, cooking & preparation, transportation of the meals prepared.
A brief introduction about the BIS activities & features of BIS website, BIS Care App, Importance of BIS Certification Licence for the Industry, various certification schemes such as ISI mark, Registration mark, Grant of Certification of Conformity was given to the participants by Shri Ajay Maurya, Scientist-D.
Smt. Poonam Choudhary, Scientist-D/Joint Director gave a presentation on Wide Circulation “Code for Hygienic Conditions required for preparation and supply of Food/Meals in Schools” and emphasized on the small practices, which can enhance the quality of safety of food prepared and discussed the infrastructure, raw material storage, cleaning and sanitation of school kitchens, pest control & water supply in kitchens and personnel hygiene of the cooks.
The programme was attended by more than 150 participants. The participants appreciated the programme and described it as beneficial and their technical queries as well as queries related to BIS were resolved to their satisfaction.
Shri Deepak Aggarwal, Scientist-F & Head, Chandigarh Branch Office, delivered vote of thanks and expressed his gratitude for the presence of Shri Vishal kalia (Principal CIHM) and Shri Manoj Kumar (District Food Supply Officer, Chandigarh), Cooks and Teachers of various schools present and Consumer Organizations.
