LAUNCH OF MOBILE APP ‘SHARE AND SALUTE CHANDIGARH’

​​The State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi have got created mobile app titled ‘Share and Salute Chandigarh’ from the Society for Promotion of Information Technology in Chandigarh (under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration) for the purpose of Social Development Initiative vide which each village in Chandigarh (21 in number) has been taken up for Community/Social Development Initiative.

The Social Development Initiative has been started in 21 villages of U.T. Chandigarh which are situated in periphery of Chandigarh by forming teams of Panel Advocates and Students Para Legal Volunteers.
​​The Mobile App ‘Share and Salute Chandigarh’ was formerly launched/inaugurated by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri, Acting Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court-cum-Patron in Chief, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh in a function organized by State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh in Chandigarh Judicial Academy today i.e. 21.11.2023 in the august presence of Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana-cum-Executive Chairperson, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajbir Sehrawat, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana-cum-Administrative Judge, Chandigarh Sessions Division, Hon’ble Ms. Justice Lapita Banerji and Hon’ble Ms. Justice Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, Judges, High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh.

​​The Mobile App ‘Share and Salute Chandigarh’ has the features for seeking legal aid for filing/defending cases in Union Territory, Chandigarh; seeking legal aid/relief in Permanent and Continuous Lok Adalat; details regarding Legal Aid Clinics; new initiatives of District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh as well as details about the schemes of Chandigarh Administration. This mobile app will also provide a platform for residents to upload their grievances relating to availability of various Social Welfare Schemes, Public Utility Services etc. by means of photograph/video/voice message and the District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and approved adopters of these 21 villages would make efforts to resolve the problems of common citizens in co-ordination with concerned departments.

​​Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill during the launch of Mobile App stated that with the advent of technology, the scope of legal services has also been extended. The resources for providing free legal aid are limited but with the development of technology, these resources can be utilized more efficiently and effectively. She also stated that this mobile app can bring a better change in the society, if all the stakeholders come forward and work together for providing help in unison to the deprived and marginalized sections of the society to achieve the object of Social and Economic Justice contained in the Preamble to the Constitution of India. She also stated that the State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh under the leadership and guidance of Hon’ble Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri started several key initiatives such as setting up of Counselling Centre in District Courts, Chandigarh for providing counselling in matrimonial disputes; survey of female sex workers and their children, to redress their problems and for providing benefit such as benefit of Rs.4,000/- per month under the Sponsorship Scheme and interaction of jail inmates through counsellors to ascertain the causal factors of committing crimes by jail inmates.

​​The Certificates of Appreciation were also distributed by Hon’ble Ms. Justice RituBahri, Acting Chief Justice and other Hon’ble Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court to Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers, Student Para Legal Volunteers working with District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh for promoting the cause of legal services in U.T., Chandigarh.
​​A skit programme on the topic of Senior Citizens was also performed by the law students of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
