Street Vendors’ capacity building and training workshop concluded succesfully

Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh jointly organized the second capacity building and training workshop at City livelihood Centre, Community Sewa Kendra, Sector 25D, Chandigarh from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
Thirty-nine registered street vendors were trained during the workshop. The training sessions were delivered by experts from various fields, to encourage street vendors and ensure that the vendors conform to Byelaws of MCC, Street vendors Act 2014, and Swachh Bharat Mission. The vendors were also enlightened about social security and loan schemes available for them.
The training sessions included a skit performed by Mask theatre artists on street vending related issues followed by a lecture on Hygiene & Micro environment delivered by Dr. Poonam Khanna, Associate Professor at PGIMER in Chandigarh. The vendors were made aware of regulations under Street Vendors’ Act and bylaws through a lecture delivered by Ms. Ramnik Kaur, Livelihood Officer, DAY-NULM, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on legal aspects of street vending. She also briefed the vendors on various micro-credit schemes for them. The street vendors were informed about women and child rights and laws by Mr. Gautam Bhardwaj, Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Chandigarh. Ms. Rajinder Kaur, Project Assistant delivered a lecture on various social security schemes for street vendors and introduced them to the new initiative being launched by PGIMER and Municipal Corporation on health assurance for the vendors and their families.
The workshop concluded with distribution of refreshment and certificate to vendors by the project team.
