Dr Rajbir Dahiya, USA delivered lecture on early detection and management of Urological malignancies

“Develop a low-cost molecular testing model for prostate cancer that aims to benefit patients in India & developing countries”, Dr Dahiya

The Department of Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology at PGI was honored to welcome Prof. Rajvir Dahiya as a visiting professor. Prof. Dahiya, an alumnus of PGI, began his journey here as a student in 1978, earning his PhD in Experimental Medicine. He further honed his skills in Medical Oncology and Molecular Biology at Osaka University School of Medicine, Japan, and the University of Chicago, USA.
From 1987 onwards, Prof. Dahiya served as a Medical Oncology Scientist at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. His expertise was recognized at the highest level when he was appointed as the scientific advisor to the former President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam (2002-2007).

During his visit, Prof. Dahiya interacted with the director and various faculty members involved in the management of urological malignancies. He also delivered a lecture on “A Novel mRNA Genomic Technology for Precision Medicine and Oncology” to the faculty, students, and research scholars of the institute. Prof. Dahiya emphasized the importance of research in medicine and highlighted how mRNA-based technology can aid in the early detection of cancer and monitoring of its treatment. Prof. Dahiya expressed a keen interest in collaborating with the Medical Oncology and Urology team to develop a low-cost molecular testing model for prostate cancer. This initiative aims to benefit patients in India and other developing countries.

Dr. Uttam Mete and Dr. Pankaj Malhotra had the honor of formally introducing the visiting professor. Dr. Gaurav Prakash expressed his gratitude to Prof. Dahiya and all participants by offering a vote of thanks and expressed willingness for more such enlightening visits from Prof. Dahiya in the future.
