ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH, PAYS HOMAGE TO MAHATMA GANDHI ON MARTYRS’ DAY

CHANDIGARH, JANUARY 30: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri Banwari Lal Purohit paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his death anniversary, observed as Martyrs’ Day across the Nation.

The Governor along with his Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. K. Siva Prasad and other officers and staff members of Punjab Raj Bhavan observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to Gandhi ji and in the memory of all those who fought for the country’s freedom and sacrificed their lives.

The Administrator said that Mahatma Gandhi was the epitome of truth and non-violence; he led several landmark movements during the freedom struggle, to free the nation from the British yoke.

Sharing various anecdotes from the lives of Mahatma Gandhi, the Governor said “the life and principles of Gandhi ji are worth emulating.” He exhorted the staff to be honest, upright and transparent in their work and conduct and observe ‘Ahimsa’ or Non-violence to the extent that their words and deeds should not hurt anyone.

Gandhi ji was strictly against untouchability or discrimination. Since today is also Leprosy Day, the significance of Gandhi ji’s thinking is even more. Let us, on this occasion, give up the feeling of discrimination towards people suffering from Leprosy and take a pledge for their welfare so that they can be included in the mainstream of the society, said Sh. Purohit.
