The eagerly anticipated IA&AD North Zone Carrom Tournament, a three-day event conducted by the Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit) Punjab, has kicked off in style. The grand opening ceremony took place at Plot no. 21, Sector-17 E, Chandigarh on November 1, 2023, and it was inaugurated by Sh. Teg Singh IA&AS, adding a touch of prestige to the event.
Men’s Quarter-Final Team Event:
In an exhilarating start to the tournament, the Men’s Quarter-Final Team Event witnessed some intense clashes. Pr.AG Uttar Pradesh’s team defeated Pr.AG Delhi ‘A’ team with a score of 3-0, while Pr.AG Himachal Pradesh’s team secured a victory against Pr.AG Jammu & Kashmir with a score of 2-1. Pr. AG Delhi ‘B’ team emerged victorious over Pr.AG Uttarakhand’s team with a score of 2-1, and Pr. AG Haryana’s team triumphed over Pr.AG Punjab with a score of 2-1.
The audience was treated to nail-biting action as the four teams gave their all on the carrom board. Semifinal matches are scheduled to be played between Pr.AG Uttar Pradesh and Pr.AG Himachal Pradesh, along with Pr.AG Delhi ‘B’ against Pr.AG Haryana. Expectations are high as these teams compete for a spot in the finals.
Men’s Veteran Category:
The Men’s Veteran Category witnessed some remarkable performances. Sh. Ramesh Thakur of Pr.AG Himachal Pradesh displayed his carrom skills by defeating Sh. Manoj Bhan of Pr.AG Haryana with a score of 2-0. Sh. Amrender Shrivastav of Pr.AG Uttar Pradesh showcased his expertise by securing a 2-0 victory over Sh. Sanjay Kumar of Pr.AG Punjab. Additionally, Sh. Jitender Singh of Pr.AG Delhi ‘B’ emerged victorious with a score of 2-0 against Sh. Amit Singh of Pr.AG Jammu & Kashmir.
Women’s Individual Category:
In the Women’s Individual Category, the competition was equally intense. Ms. Suman Kesari of Pr.AG Uttar Pradesh demonstrated her carrom prowess by defeating Ms. Reena Singh of Pr.AG Punjab with a score of 2-0. Ms. Pooja of Pr.AG Shimla delivered a superb performance and secured a 2-0 victory over Ms. Priya Singh of Pr.AG Jammu & Kashmir.
