157 units of blood collected at Voluntary Blood Donation Camp by Thalassaemic Charitable Trust at PGIMER

Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh organised  its 207th Blood Donation Camp on 28th November 2020 in  PGIMER, Chandigarh. It was the 4th camp in the current month.   157 units of blood were  collected from esteemed voluntary blood donors for Thalasaemics and other serious patients. This Trust has so far organised 24 Blood Donation Camps since 6th June 2020 and has mobilized more than  2060 units of blood from voluntary donors during COVID19 lockdown period. 
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has been serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in  PGIMER  & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia.  Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days  is a widely  recommended treatment  for  maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level.
Shri Rajinder Kalra,  Member Secretary,  Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGI-GMCH, Chandigarh thanked all blood donors,  Prof.(Dr.) Rati Ram Sharma, Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine  PGIMER,  Chandigarh and his team  for success of  this Camp by observing  social distancing and other COVID19 precautions.
