Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. VP Singh Badnore today presided over War Room meeting. The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator & Sh. Sanjay Beniwal, Director General of Police at Punjab Raj Bhawan. Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Home, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, UT & Deputy Commissioners of Mohali & Panchkula, Director-PGIMER, Director Principal, GMCH & Director Health Services, GMSH-16 attended through Video Conferencing.

WAR ROOM DIRECTIONS

1. Dr. Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER stated that they have 108 covid patients in Nehru Hospital Extension, out of which 29 belong to Chandigarh, 49 to Punjab, 19 to Haryana, 08 to Himachal Pradesh and 03 to other states. The Director further informed that there has been 6% positivity found in the samples collected by PGIMER. Dr. Puri of PGIMER stated that surprisingly many young patients have been affected in the recent surge with severe infection and a large number of such patients are coming from rural areas. Dr. Minni of PGIMER clarified that these samples, which were sent to genome testing to Pune have reported that they contain the same corona symptom, as before. Director, PGIMER further informed that they have administered 9,000 corona vaccine doses.

Dr. Jasbinder Kaur, Director Principal, GMCH stated that they have tested 3,604 samples, out of which 191 were found positive and the positivity rate was 5.3%.

Dr. Amandeep Kang, Director Health Services stated that they have tested 13,857 covid samples and found 7.8% positivity rate last week. Dr. Kang further mentioned that till date 58,157 corona vaccine doses have been administered in the Union Territory.

2. Deputy Commissioner, Mohali stated that they have 1575 active cases with 14% positivity rate, Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula stated that they have 457 active cases with 5.9% positivity rate and Deputy Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh stated that they have 1330 active cases.

3. After detailed discussions, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT directed that number of testing particularly RT-PCR testing should be enhanced. He advised the hospital authorities to ensure that patients going for OPD consultation should preferably get themselves tested for covid either from government or private facilities available in the Union Territory, Chandigarh. This will reduce risk of spread of corona infection in hospitals’ premises and will prevent unnecessary risk to health workers and other patients.

4. The Administrator directed Commissioner, Municipal Corporation to intensify contact tracing and enhance sanitization in the city.

5. The Administrator directed the police authorities to intensify challaning, particularly against those not wearing masks in crowded places including markets.

6. The Administrator appealed to the shopkeepers to get themselves voluntarily tested and to display a signboard in front of their shops stating that they themselves and their staff are free from corona.

7. The Administrator advised the owners of restaurants and eating places to reduce the number of tables, so that there is proper social distancing and to avoid close physical interaction among the customers.
