Chandigarh.17th March,2021: Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT attended a Video Conference with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India regarding steps to be taken to control resurgence of corona. Chief Ministers of various states and senior officers from the Ministry were present in the Video Conference. In his address, Sh. V.P.S. Badnore mentioned that though the number of corona cases had reduced drastically in January/February, 2021, there has been substantial rise after that. This has been due to various relaxations given and removal of restrictions on gatherings and other related factors. He informed the Hon’ble Prime Minister that against a population of 12 lakh people, the UT Administration has already conducted 2.80 lakh tests. He also mentioned that 57,000 people have been vaccinated till date. It was submitted that there has been very low wastage of vaccination (only 2% in the UT).

The Administrator informed that 49 sites have been set up for providing vaccination facilities to the eligible persons. The infrastructure available; both in government and private sectors are being utilized.

After the meeting, the Administrator directed the senior officers to follow 3-Ts (Testing, Tracking & Treating). He also directed the police authorities to ensure that mask wearing is strictly enforced, particularly in crowded places and markets. He appealed to the shopkeepers to ensure that the customers maintain social distancing within the shops and wear masks while shopping.

The Administrator directed the Health Department to enhance the number of testing, particularly the RT-PCR testing. He directed the doctors to send genome samples to Pune, so that the strain of corona could be determined.

The Administrator directed regular testing of school teachers, students and also persons coming from outside at Railway Station & Bus Terminus. He also advised the shopkeepers to get themselves tested early, since they come in contact with many customers.

The Administrator appealed to the senior citizens and vulnerable persons to go for vaccination at the earliest.

The Administrator directed Director General of Police to intensify challaning in public places, eating houses and markets to ensure wearing of masks and following of covid protocol by all concerned.

The Administrator appealed to the residents to co-operate with the Administration in a fight against corona and to strictly follow the covid appropriate behavior.
