Gurugram, May 11: In view of the upcoming monsoon season, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority will establish a dedicated Flood Control Office in Gurugram to ensure swift response and effective management of waterlogging situations across the city during heavy rainfall events.
The Flood Control Office will function round-the-clock throughout the monsoon period and will serve as a central coordination hub for monitoring rainfall-related situations, deployment of resources and addressing public grievances. Necessary manpower, machinery and support systems will be put in place to provide immediate assistance to residents and ensure smooth movement on city roads during adverse weather conditions.
As part of the preparedness measures, dedicated manpower will be engaged by GMDA for regular cleaning and maintenance of drain inlets, road gullies and the drainage network to facilitate quick discharge of storm water from the master roads of Gurugram. Special focus is being laid on ensuring that drainage infrastructure remains free from silt, debris and other obstructions during the monsoon season.
To strengthen on-ground response capabilities, pumping machinery, mobile tractor-mounted pump sets, suction tankers and DG Sets will also be kept ready for deployment across the city depending on the prevailing situation. This flexible mechanism will enable rapid drainage support and timely intervention in waterlogging-prone areas.
In addition, JCB machines and labour teams will also be deployed to undertake emergency operations, desilting activities and cleaning of road gullies and drainage infrastructure wherever required. Continuous monitoring and coordinated field action will be undertaken to minimise inconvenience to commuters and residents during monsoon rains.
GMDA officials stated that all concerned teams are being mobilised in advance to ensure efficient flood management and strengthen the city’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.
GMDA to Conduct Mock Drills at Major Underpasses
In continuation of its monsoon preparedness measures, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority will also undertake a comprehensive schedule of mock drills at major underpasses across Gurugram from May 15 onwards to assess the operational readiness of drainage systems, pumping machinery and flood response infrastructure.
Under the schedule, mock drills for underpasses under NHAI will be conducted at Ambience Mall, Subhash Chowk and Shankar Chowk on May 15, IFFCO Chowk on May 18, Signature Tower and Vatika Chowk on May 19, Rajiv Chowk, Medanta Road and HUDA City Centre underpass on May 20, Hero Honda Chowk and Genpact underpass on May 21, Sector 110/113 and Sector 109/110 underpasses on May 26, Sector 102/104 underpass on May 28 and Sector 84/36B underpass on May 29.
