Chandigarh: A complex lower extremity peripheral vascular bypass on 68-year-old was performed successfully at Shalby Hospital Mohali recently.
Iqbal Singh, a retired army personnel, was presented with advanced peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and critical limb ischemia. The multidisciplinary vascular team of Shalby Hospital Mohali led by Dr Harinder Singh Bedi , chief cardiac & vascular surgeon restored full blood circulation to the affected limb, preventing imminent amputation and relieving the patient’s severe ischemic pain.
Dr Bedi said, “ A lower extremity peripheral vascular bypass was performed using an autogenous vein graft to reroute blood flow around the obstructed arterial segment. This resulted with immediate relief from resting leg pain, successful restoration of perfusion, uneventful postoperative course, and discharge in stable condition.
Advanced PVD severely restricts blood flow and threatens tissue viability. By performing this precise bypass, we successfully re-established normal perfusion, relieving ischemic pain and preventing potential amputation, said Dr Aayushi, cardiac anaesthetist.
The patient experienced immediate pain relief after the procedure and was discharged after a short, stable recovery.
