Celebrating Unity in Diversity: Punjab Raj Bhawan Hosts Foundation Day Celebration of Maharashtra and Gujarat

Chandigarh, 1st May,2024 – In a remarkable display of national integration and communal harmony, Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, hosted a grand celebration marking the foundation days of Maharashtra and Gujarat on May 1st, 2024. The event, held at the Guru Nanak Auditorium within the Raj Bhawan premises, exemplified the spirit of unity amidst diversity.

The celebration, aimed at promoting national integration and fostering unity among the diverse cultural groups in the city, brought together dignitaries, officials, and members of the Marathi and Gujarati communities. Hearty congratulations were extended to all Marathi and Gujarati brothers on the anniversary of the formation of the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

In addition to commemorating the foundation days of Maharashtra and Gujarat, the event also coincided with International Labour Day. A tribute was paid to the dedicated workers for their multifaceted contribution to the building of Punjab and the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh  emphasized that India, with its 28 states and 8 union territories, is characterized by its rich diversity of cultures, ideologies, and religions. Despite these differences, the essence of unity in diversity remains the country’s identity. Understanding and respecting the uniqueness of all cultures were highlighted as essential for India’s unity.

The series of Statehood Day Celebrations, initiated with this objective, has been ongoing, with the foundation day of all states of the country celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Punjab Raj Bhavan over the past year.

Punjab shares a special bond with Maharashtra and Gujarat, as reflected in the words of the National Anthem, binding the states together. Gujarat’s significant role in major freedom movements and Maharashtra’s contribution through prominent personalities and cultural festivals were acknowledged as integral parts of India’s heritage.

The event showcased the cultural richness of Maharashtra and Gujarat through traditional dishes, festivals, and cultural performances. The significance of cultural exchanges in strengthening unity, love, and harmony was emphasized, urging everyone to embrace their rich culture while respecting others’.
