Badminton Tournament (for Boys & Girls under 15 years), being organised by Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration got underway with gala opening today i.e., 8th June, 2023 at Sports Complex, sector-7, Chandigarh.

Mr Sorabh Arora, Director Sports, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony. Dr Sunil Rayat, Joint Director Sports and Mr Dharmender Mehta, DSO were also present.

Around 250 players under the age groups of 6 to less than 9 years, 9 to less than 11 years, 11 to less than 13 years,13 to less than 15 years are participating in the tournament.

Director Sports shared that endeavour of the sports department to organise this tournament is to identify the talent at grass root level which will be nurtured & groomed to elite level. The purpose of ‘catch them young’ and preparing the data base of the identified talent and grooming the same as per Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) will yield fruitful results.

The same process will also be in place for all the sports disciplines all through the year 2023-2024. Collaborating with concerned Associations of Chandigarh and Education Department, Chandigarh as stakeholders will complement the sports talent identification & its development.
