Akshay’s pace attack helps Chhattisgarh to register 96 run win over hosts, squares the series

Chandigarh, Chattisgarh beat Chandigarh by 96 runs to level the five match series with 1-1 in the ongoing Under 19 ODI series being played at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16 on Thursday. Earlier, Chandigarh won the team and invited visitors to bat first. Jayant Vashisht demolished the top order with 31/3 on the board. Later, Harsh Dubey (34) and skipper Varun Singh (34) compensated for the loss and steered the ship to a respectable score as the entire team collapsed at 211. Azam Hussain Khan contributed 33 runs. Jayant (3/16) took maximum share of three wickets followed by Nikhil Kumar (2/26) and Yuvraj Thakur (2/24).

In reply, Akshay Prasad produced havoc when hosts came into chase. UT boys once, reeling at 24/5. Thereafter, unbeaten Raghav Verma (55) and Yuvraj Thakur (23) repaired the loss with a 63 runs partnership but dismissal of Yuvraj once again marked the collapse for the team. Tailender failed to support  Raghav and the entire team bundled out for 115 in 30th over. Akash (3/25) was the pick of the bowler while Vikalp Tiwari (2/7) and Om Vaishnav (2/10) took two wickets each.

The third match of the series will be played on 9 September.

UTCA Combined Women’s T20 Tournament: Plaza Zone snatches one run thriller from Rock Zone

Chandigarh, Plaza Zone registered a thrilling one-run victory over Rock Zone in the UTCA Combined Women’s T20 tournament being played at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, Chandigarh on Thursday. Batting first, Plaza Zone got all out for 99 runs. Unbeaten Divya Sharma scored 42 runs while Ishana scored 34 runs. Rameeza Begum (4/15) took the maximum four wickets from the opposition. In reply, the last ball of the match witnessed the thrilling finish as Rock Zone was restricted to 98/9 runs. Simranjit Kaur and Rameeza Begum scored 17 runs each.

In another match of the day, Rose Zone thrashed Leisure Zone for 57 runs. Batting first, the Rose scored 128/8 with the help of captain Kashvee Gautam (40). In reply, Leisure Zone succumbed to Kumari Shibi (4/10) and was bundled out for mere 71 runs in the 17th over. Twinkle Pathak (24) was the top scorer for the side.
