The Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, inaugurated the newly developed Sensory Garden at the Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Sector 31-C, Chandigarh, today.

The Governor toured the Sensory Garden and interacted with special educators involved in therapeutic interventions, appreciating their commitment to improving the lives of children with disabilities.

The Sensory Garden is an innovative space designed to provide therapeutic and recreational benefits to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), intellectual, and developmental disabilities. It incorporates elements that stimulate the senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, and proprioception, creating an enriching environment for sensory exploration and development.

Speaking on the occasion, the Administrator emphasized the importance of making disability services accessible to all, even at their doorstep. He highlighted the need for robust community outreach programs and encouraged organizations to collaborate with GRIID to expand the scope of disability services. “Every person with a disability deserves accessible services at their doorstep,” he said.

The Administrator also reviewed GRIID’s ongoing initiatives, including door-to-door surveys, and praised their efforts in ensuring inclusivity and empowerment.

Sh. Ajay Chagti, Secretary Health , Prof. A.K. Attri, Director, GRIID; Dr. Ajeet Sidana, Joint Director, GRIID and  other faculty members were also present during the visit.
