Chandigarh, October 20, 2023 – Smt. Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India reviewed the regional logistic needs of the region and highlights the complimentary role of National Gatishakti initiative and state governments during a a media conference held in Chandigarh today. marking the extraordinary progress made over the last two years in implementing the PM GatiShakti initiative. She was accompanied by Sh. Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana and Sh. Sumeet Jarangal, Director, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.

PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP) is a transformative approach for integrated and holistic planning across concerned Ministries/Departments to improve multimodal connectivity, logistics efficiency and to address critical infrastructure gaps for seamless movement of people and goods, with focus on minimising disruptions and ensuring timely completion of projects.

Notably, several key accomplishments were highlighted during the conference, showcasing the transformative power of PM GatiShakti. It was informed that PM GatiShakti played a pivotal role in identifying 156 infrastructure gaps affecting essential sectors like Coal, Steel, and Ports; and, it was in recognition of its significance that the government allocated a substantial Rs 75,000 crores for 100 critical infrastructure projects in the Union Budget for 2023-24. ‘This momentous undertaking has ushered in a new era of infrastructure development across India, significantly enhancing connectivity and logistics on a national scale’, Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary, DPIIT said during the conference.

It was also shared that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways streamlined plans for over 8890 kilometers of roads, reducing the time required for Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation to a mere 15 days. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has streamlined pipeline planning, reducing report generation time to 24 hours. Sh. Sumeet Jarangal, Director, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, also added that Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure planning is also in the pipeline. He noted that the PM GatiShakti portal will play a pivotal role in expediting the planning for this pivotal shift towards sustainable and efficient transportation.

Sh. Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana, added, “The achievements of PM GatiShakti are a testament to the collaborative spirit of our nation. All 36 States & UTs have successfully established State-level mechanisms and operational State Master Plan portals, optimizing GIS data layers for infrastructure planning.”

It was also highlighted during the conference that PM GatiShakti, beyond its domestic acclaim, has garnered international attention at G20 meetings, B20 events, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) conference, and through interactions with global stakeholders.

Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary, DPIIT, further stated, “PM GatiShakti has ignited a transformative wave in India’s infrastructure landscape. The integration of data, convergence with NITI Aayog, and extensive capacity building have been instrumental in its success.”
