Chandigarh, July 30: In order to provide better health and diagnostic facilities to people in the border areas, the Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Cabinet on Monday approved the transfer of 25 acres of land at Ferozerpur to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, GoI, for setting up a 100-bedded PGIMER Satellite Centre.

The proposal for the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Satellite Centre was placed before the Governing Body of the institute on June 28, 2018, as a step towards addressing the issue of referrals. The Institute had approved the proposal and decided that a Detailed Investment Board (DIB) of the project be prepared and submitted at the earliest to the Government of India, so that some of the urgent medical services could be made functional at this centre.

According to an official spokesperson, the District Administration had identified the new site for the project adjoining Circuit House on Ferozepur-Chandigarh Highway. The site belongs to the Department of Horticulture.

According to information received from the DC, Ferozepur, this single chunk of land, situated on the main road, was far more suitable as compared to the earlier site, which was at two different places in the city.
