Bureau of Indian Standards celebrates World Standards Day
The World Standards Day was celebrated by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh, on 14th October, 2023.
On this occasion, aprogrammewas organised by Bureau of Indian Standards under the theme ‘Shared Vision for a Better World –Standards for Sustainable Development Goals”. The theme is chosen collectively by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and International Telecommunication Union. (ITU).In the programme special focus was given to the Sustainable Development Goal 3 which focuses on ensuring good health and well beingfor all at all ages.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Sonia Trika, Director General, Health Services, Haryana stated the important role standards play in strengthening the capacity of developing countries and mitigate national and global healthrisks. She further applauded the role BIS plays in creating and promoting these standards.
Shri Rajeev P, Deputy Director General, Northern Regional Office, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in his welcome address extended hearty welcome to the Chief Guest and the delegates. Shri Rajeev P in his welcome address said that every year on 14th October, World Standards Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts world over who collaborate with Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS) and International Organisation for Standardization. (ISO).He further stated the contribution of Bureau of Indian Standards in promoting standards in day to day life of Indians.

The technical seminar organised by BIS was chaired byDr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director-Principle, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali. Dr. Bhavneet Bharti conducted the technical session in which presentation were made by Mr. Deepak Aggarwal, Head Chandigarh Branch Office, Bureau of Indian Standards, Mr. Maruti Prasad Nanda, General Manager, Nestle India Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Chitra, MD Ayurveda and Mr. Vikas Sharma, Torque Pharmaceuticals. The programme was attended by industryassociations, BIS licencees, Consumer Organization etc.
