Chandigarh, October 26, 2026
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandigarh Pradesh, on Monday staged a strong protest against the alleged derogatory remarks made by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late father. Under the directions of BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, party workers marched towards Congress Bhawan to register their protest against the Congress leadership. A large number of BJP office-bearers and party workers participated in the demonstration and strongly condemned the alleged use of insulting language against the Prime Minister and his late father.
The protest march commenced from the BJP Chandigarh Pradesh office, Kamalam, Sector 33. Raising slogans against the Congress leadership, the protesters proceeded through Sector 34 towards Congress Bhawan in Sector 35. In view of the protest, the police administration had erected barricades in front of the Akashvani Centre to prevent the demonstrators from moving forward.
The situation turned tense as angry BJP workers attempted to break through and cross the barricades to proceed towards Congress Bhawan. To bring the situation under control, the police resorted to the use of force and deployed water cannons to disperse and stop the protesters. The demonstrators continued raising strong slogans against the Congress leadership and expressed their deep resentment over the alleged remarks concerning the Prime Minister and his late father.
BJP Chandigarh Pradesh General Secretary Ramveer Bhatti said that the alleged derogatory remarks made by the Congress National President against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late father were extremely unfortunate. He stated that while political opposition to the Prime Minister was a matter of political differences, targeting someone’s family and deceased father was contrary to Indian culture, social values and democratic traditions.
Bhatti said that political differences were natural in a democracy, but public discourse must maintain dignity and respect. He asserted that the Congress should focus on development and public welfare instead of making personal remarks that vitiate the political atmosphere. He added that every BJP worker would continue to oppose such statements through democratic means. He urged the Congress leadership to introspect and set an example of responsible language in public life.
Former BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Arun Sood said that the Congress leadership must understand that political competition in a democracy should be based on ideas, policies and public service. He stated that personal and family-related remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi lowered the standard of political discourse.
Sood said that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, several efforts had been undertaken to advance the country’s development, infrastructure, public welfare and India’s standing at the global level. He emphasised that government policies could be criticised on the basis of facts and arguments, but personal insults could never be considered an achievement of any political party. He called upon the Congress to reflect on its language and conduct and uphold the tradition of respectful dialogue in public life. He added that BJP workers would continue to register their democratic protest against such remarks.

The protest was attended by State Vice Presidents Naresh Panchal, Indira Singh and Davinder Babla; State General Secretaries Ramveer Bhatti and Sanjeev Rana; former Pradesh President Arun Sood; Shakti Prakash Devshali; Media Coordinator Ravi Rawat; Yuva Morcha President Abhay Jha; General Secretary Priya Paswan; District President Ravinder Malik; Bhupender Saini; Anoop Gupta; Sonu Sarpanch; SC Morcha President Amit Khairwal; and Kisan Morcha’s Mandeep Singh, along with several other party office-bearers and workers.
The participants collectively condemned the alleged derogatory political remarks and stated that while everyone has the right to disagree in a democracy, maintaining the dignity of language remains the responsibility of every political leader.
The BJP Chandigarh Pradesh reiterated that standing up for the dignity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opposing insulting remarks formed an integral part of its commitment. The party called upon the Congress leadership to prioritise dignified public discourse and ensure that political differences did not become a means of personal insult.
