Chandigarh, July 2, 2026: Highlighting the growing role of women in leadership, Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown (District 3080) witnessed a landmark double installation with Dr. Rita Kalra taking over as District Governor of Rotary International District 3080 and Rtn. Renu Chopra, assuming office as the 50th President of the Club for the Rotary year 2026–27. The ceremony, held at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43, coincided with the Club’s Golden Jubilee year. Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown, one of the city’s leading Rotary clubs, undertakes service projects across the Tricity region- Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.
The function was graced by Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator, Hon’ble Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Alka Sareen, Judge, Punjab & Haryana High Court, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo was the Special Guest. Senior Rotary leaders, dignitaries and members from across District 3080 attended the event.
Congratulating the newly installed leaders, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria praised Rotary’s contribution in healthcare, education, skill development, environmental protection and humanitarian service. He also welcomed the rise of women in leadership, saying that women bring vision, sensitivity and determination to institutions, and expressed confidence that the new leadership would further strengthen Rotary’s service initiatives.
Speaking after assuming office as District Governor, Dr. Rita Kalra called upon Rotarians to strengthen Rotary’s culture of ethical leadership, inclusiveness and meaningful service. She urged members to work together on projects that create sustainable change and touch lives across communities.
In her acceptance address, Rtn. Renu Chopra described it as a privilege to lead Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown during its Golden Jubilee year. She outlined her vision of expanding community service through projects focused on women empowerment, youth leadership, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability and stronger partnerships with civic institutions across the Tricity.
The ceremony also recognised the valuable contribution of Outgoing President Rtn. Jagwinder Singh Bawa and his Board of Directors for successfully leading the Club during the Rotary year 2025–26. The outgoing team was applauded for strengthening service initiatives and enhancing the Club’s standing within Rotary International.
The newly installed Board of Directors for 2026–27 also assumed office during the ceremony. The event concluded with the presentation of mementoes to the distinguished guests and a vote of thanks, reaffirming Rotary’s enduring motto, “Service Above Self,” and its commitment to the Rotary International theme, “Create Lasting Impact.”
