Chandigarh.17th March,2021:The mission of eradicating malnutrition from Chandigarh caught force and took the city by a large number of events, starting on March 16, 2021. Poshan Pakhwada 2021 began with great enthusiasm and carefully organized events, competitions and rallies, maintaining social distancing and following all the precautions during this pandemic. With great success in informing the public of Chandigarh on the first day of the Pakhwada, the officials and participants commenced the second day with even more zeal.
 
On March 17, 2021, the programmes were focused on distributing herbal plants, medicinal plants, informing lactating women and families of malnourished children. Various herbal plants were distributed to the onlookers to cope up with the malnourishment in Chandigarh through home remedies. The nutritional challenges faced by people can be helped with these home remedies. At Anganwadi Building, Mouli Colony the distribution event was organized, with the presentation of Poshan Chakra.
 
A Godbharai event was organized at Palsora Colony in convergence with AYUSH for the well being of pregnant and lactating women and their babies. The participants were made aware of the importance of nutrition for a healthy life and nurturing the growth of the women and child. They were given a platter with nutrition-rich foods such as Spinach, Carrots, Coriander and other iron-rich foods to evade the problems caused by anaemia in both women and their children. They were provided with iron capsules and folic acid capsules.
 
A Community-Based Event on 1000 days was initiated by the Department to talk about various themes and organize pertaining activities such as lectures on anaemia, counselling of parents of SAM children in the city, in all 450 Aganwadi Centres. The pregnant women and women with newborns were introduced to 1000 days of nutrition, in which they were provided with the nutrition-rich diet for each trimester and then after the child is born. To keep the child and mother safe from any diseases, malnourishment is being defeated in the U.T. with awareness.
 
In another celebration under the Poshan Pakhwada 2021, World Social Work Day 2021 was commemorated through a two-day workshop on 16 & 17 March at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sector 12, Chandigarh. The workshop was organized by the State Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell, DAY NULM, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the RGNIYD, on the premises. This programme was dedicated to creating a community and social workers for sustainable cities and communities and the action plan for implementation.
 
The Department conducted activities on Poshan ke 5 Sutras in the GMSH, sector 16 for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers to ensure proper nutrition in their sensitive years. The 5 sutras are important for the wholesome growth of everyone. The AYUSH Department planted 4 saplings of nutrition-rich where doctors delivered lectures to utilize the medicinal herbs in daily diets. The second day turned out to be critically important in initiating various programmes for the betterment of the citizens.
