Chandigarh, July 6 – In one of the biggest drug haul, Haryana Police have seized 822 kg 350 gram of ganja worth crores of rupees from a truck in Nuh district. The vehicle, which was used for the transportation of contraband, was also seized.
Giving this information here today, a spokesperson of Haryana Police said that the arrested accused was identified as Sahil, a resident of district Alwar in Rajasthan. He was nabbed by a Police team following a tip-off about the smuggling of narcotics in the district.
Based on specific inputs, a police party had laid a trap and signaled a truck bearing Rajasthan registration number coming from Punhana side to stop for checking. Seeing the police party, the driver tried to speed away but was intercepted by the team. One accused was arrested while the other in the vehicle managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. When police frisked the truck, it found 26 plastic bags weighing 822 kg 350 gram ganja.
The second accused had also been identified and nabbed very soon. We are also verifying the details as to where the contraband was being smuggled. A case had been registered under NDPS Act and further probe is underway.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana Mr. Manoj Yadava appreciated the Nuh Police for intensifying efforts to crack down on those involved in drug peddling in the State. He also directed the Police to completely crush the menace of the drug mafia and its distribution network in the state.
