Webinar on ‘Swachhta during COVID pandemic’ organised today

A webinar on ‘Swachhta during COVID pandemic’ was organised today by Regional Outreach Bureau and Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh. In his welcome address, Harshit Narang, Assistant Director, Press Information Bureau, Chandigarh informed the participants that Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on 2nd October 2014 to make India clean by eradicating open defecation, improving solid waste management and spreading awareness regarding the importance of cleanliness. This has gained another dimension as India fights war against the COVID-19, he added.

During the webinar, a guest speaker, Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Senior Deputy Mayor, Chandigarh emphasized the importance of sanitation and covid-appropriate behaviour for a healthy and disease-free life. He informed the participants about efforts of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) in its fight against the pandemic. He further said that medical waste during these times has become another challenge in waste management.

Another guest speaker Anil Kumar, District Programme Manager, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Panchkula spoke of the success of Swachh Bharat Mission in rural areas of the district. He pointed that the COVID-19 lockdown has instigated significant changes in household behaviours across a variety of categories including water consumption which has seen a drastic rise.

On this occasion, Sh. Rohit, Social activist and Swachhta Ambassador, Chandigarh also shared his views and requested all attending the webinar to join hands with the government in this fight against COVID-19. He said government’s guidelines and personal hygiene are essential to break the transmission chain.

Ms. Sapna, Assistant Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh moderated the webinar. The session concluded with Shri Baljit Singh, Assistant Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Chandigarh presenting a vote of thanks to all the participants and guest speakers.
