Web Seminar on ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur ji di Baani da Sangeet Prabandh

Today a web lecture entitled ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur ji di Baani da Sangeet Prabandh’ was organized by the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, PU Chandigarh; as per directions received from Director Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Punjab in commemoration of 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Web lecture was started with the Special Shabad Recitation “Re Man Kaun Gat Hoye Hai Teri” by Dr. Arshpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, University College Ghanaur. This Shabad was from the Bani of Guru Tegh Bahadur which was sung in the Jaijaiwanti Raga with the traditional instruments consists of Dilruba Rabab and Jodi etc,
In her Welcome-cum-introductory address, Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, Academic In-Charge of the Department said that Guru Tegh Bahadur ji was a great personality; He gave a humanitarian approach to religion; He was also a prolific musician and composed many verses contains in Guru Granth Sahib.
In his Inaugural Address, Dr. V. R. Sinha, Dean University Instructions (DUI), Panjab University Chandigarh said that music is a very useful tool to connect the peoples and Gurbani is a unique example of musical remedy given by Sikh Gurus.
Main speaker was Dr. Jasbir Kaur, Former Dean, Punjabi University, Patiala & Principal, Gurmat College, Patiala. She gave a deep and detailed account of Ragas and metres of Gurbani. These Ragas are classified and designed according to human moods like Happy, Valour, Sorrow, Calmness etc. She said that music in the form of Gurbani has a very deep and mystical impact upon the human psyche. These Ragas have a unique and deep link with human conditions like environmental, social and political etc.
In his Presidential Address, Dr. Jasbir Singh Sabar, Retired Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar said that Guru Tradition is not a historical tradition but also a tradition of sacrifice, devotion and mysticism. He laid stress upon an urgent need of revival of Gurmat Sangeet Parampara and should be practiced in general our lives.
People from all over the world participated in the webinar including PU Chandigarh, PU Patiala, PU Lahore, UK, Australia, US, England etc. and made the program successful. The stage was conducted by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh. At the end of Webinar, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, gave a vote of thanks to all the participants and dignitaries from across the Globe; specially of Dr. Raj Kumar, vice—chancellor of the University for their cooperation and inspiration.
