The Vice President of India ,  Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of Saint Shri Dhanna Bhagat at Kaithal, Haryana today. As the helicopter could not take off due to bad weather ,  the Vice President traveled by road from Delhi to Dhanauri village in Kaithal where he was received by the Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Manohar Lal and other dignitaries of the society.

Mr. Dhankhar offered prayers at the temple of Mr. Dhanna Bhagat in Dhanori village and then attended the birth anniversary celebrations of Mr. Dhanna Bhagat nearby as the chief guest.

Addressing the people ,  the Vice President said that the people of India are fortunate that we have got the company of great saints and mahatmas in this country. He also said that our saints are fully preserving our cultural heritage ,  and are working as a very good guide.

Describing Shri Dhanna Bhagat as a major signature of the Bhakti movement, Shri Dhankhar stressed the need for everyone to pay attention to the great ideas of Dhanna Bhagat and carry forward his ideals in the society. Appealing to keep saints and great men above the bondage of caste and creed, the Vice President said that no saint-great man ever wishes harm to anyone, but wants everyone’s welfare.

Expressing concern over the problem of drug addiction among the youth, Mr. Dhankhar said, “I express my concern that some of our youth have lost their way. Use of drugs is a very dangerous disease… which can destroy the whole generation, it should be curbed. We should take a vow that on this auspicious day, we will follow the path shown by our saints.

In his address, Shri Dhankhar said that India is changing and our reputation in the world has increased. Today we have become the fifth largest economy and by the end of this decade will be the third largest superpower in the world. He also said that “the pinnacle of change is that India’s highest office, His Excellency the President ,  is a tribal, the Vice President is a farmer’s son and the Prime Minister is from the Other Backward Classes.”

Calling upon the youth to play an active role in the transformation of the country, the Vice President said that if anyone creates obstacles in India’s progress or tries to defame the country, such people should be curbed  . He said that there is no such country in the world ,  the Constitution of India has a system of elections at three levels – Panchayat/Municipality ,  State and Central level. Our democracy is alive at every level and if someone says that the democratic system in the country is weak ,  the right to speak is curbed ,  then such things are baseless.

Describing the farmers as the backbone of the Indian economy, Shri Dhankhar appreciated the steps taken by the government for the welfare of the farmers. He expressed happiness that an amount of Rs 2,25,000 crore has been given to 11 crore farmers so far.

On this occasion, Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Manohar Lal ,  people’s representatives of the area and dignitaries of the society were present.
