In an effort to assess the extent of repair work carried out by the Engineering Deptt., Chandigarh Admn. due to damage caused by recent heavy rainfall on 9th and 10th July, Sh. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, U.T. Chandigarh along-with other senior officers of the Engineering Department undertook a comprehensive site visit to the affected areas i.e. Bapu Dham road, Route No. 2, Kishangarh causeway and Makhan majra bridge crossing. This visit aims to assess the effective working of roads after their repair and subsequently opening to traffic flow and further progress made in the restoration efforts and to ensure that the repairs are being executed effectively and efficiently on emergency basis.

The heavy rainfall, which occurred on 09th and 10th July, resulted in significant damage to various road networks across the city. As part of the commitment of Chandigarh Administration to the well-being and safety of citizens, immediate action has been taken to initiate the restoration process and accordingly 3 major roads are opened for general public after repair work done by road wing of Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration on day and night basis.

The Makhan Majra crossing on Sukhna Choe is also badly damaged due to this disaster, after inspection of the causeway by Chief Engineer, U.T. today, strict directions were given to get the repair work of bridge work at this location completed today by all means by engaging additional manpower and resources so that this road can be opened for traffic by tomorrow itself. CEUT also instructed the concerned officers to get the patch work and repair work of roads done on daily basis by monitoring the various roads falling within the jurisdiction of the Engineering Deptt., Chandigarh so that these roads can be kept in good condition during the monsoon season.

Chief Engineer, UT has also visited the under construction CTU workshop at Raipur Kalan to judge the work progress at site due to recent heavy rain which resulted in the flooding of the basement area. It was directed during inspection that the sufficient machinery be deployed to drain out the water accumulated in the basement to avoid any damage to the existing structure on day and night basis.
