RBI Inaugurated Financial Literacy Week -2024

Financial Literacy Week (FLW), an annual initiative by RBI since 2016, aims to foster awareness on financial issues through a targeted campaign. This year’s theme, “Make a Right Start: Become Financially Smart”, underscores the importance of empowering youngsters to navigate the complexities of personal finance and build a solid financial foundation for long-term financial security and success.

The FL week 2024 in Chandigarh commenced on February 26, 2024 and was conducted by the Chandigarh Office of Reserve Bank of India. The event was graced by Sh. Vivek Srivastava, Regional Director of RBI for Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh, who also inaugurated the event alongside other honoured dignitaries which included Sh. Vinod Jaiswal, CGM (SBI), Sh. Raghunath B, CGM (NABARD), senior officials from commercial banks, the convenors of State Level Bankers Committee of Punjab, Haryana and UT of Chandigarh, NGOs, and Financial Literacy Counsellors.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sh. Vivek Srivastava highlighted the progress made by the country ever since embarking on this journey. He pointed out that this was the result of active participation and commitment of all stake holders and hailed the banking fraternity for its stellar role in this aspect. Nevertheless, he stated that this is a continuous journey and the nuances of Financial Literacy would also change as the economy booms and non -traditional avenues of investment and savings would become popular. He also stressed upon the need for spreading financial literacy about cyber frauds which today poses a significant threat and the young need to be targeted for making them as mascots in this effort. This year’s theme, “Make a Right Start: Become Financially Smart”, underscores the importance of equipping young adults with financial literacy skills, enabling them to make informed decisions about managing their money, setting financial goals, and planning for the future.

To amplify the impact of FLW 2024, RBI has developed engaging content, including posters and audio visuals, to disseminate essential messages pertaining to this year’s theme. Banks were urged to promote awareness by showcasing financial awareness material across digital platforms, ATMs, mobile applications, and brick and mortar branches.

RBI will also conduct a centralized mass media campaign throughout the week, disseminating essential financial awareness messages. Additionally, outreach program targeting students and young adults will be organized to ensure broader participation and impact.
