Prof. Sonal Singhal and her research group have recently developed a lab scale model for the eradication of toxic pollutants from wastewater. The model is based on the concept of wastewater treatment setup. Under this project, the research group has prepared a catalyst by utilizing the biomass derived from sugarcane bagasse. The goal of this project is not only to tackle the problem of wastewater but also the conversion of waste biomass into value added products with a vision of sustainable development. The catalyst has proven effective for the enhanced photocatalytic removal of persistent organic contaminants from wastewater. This work has recently been published in an international peer reviewed journal, Chemical Engineering Journal, Elsevier, having impact factor of 15.1. The research team has successfully tested the usage of catalyst on lab scale model and are further in talks with various industries for wastewater treatment. This innovative idea will open pathways for startups and more industry-academia collaborations.
