Kirron Kher lays foundation stone of gas furnaces in crematorium sector 25

Chandigarh, July 3:- Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today laid foundation stone of gas furnaces to be installed in place of electric furnaces in existing crematorium, sector 25 in presence of Sh. Davesh Moudgil, Mayor of Chandigarh and Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Manoj Kumar Bansal, Chief Engineer, other councilors & officers of MCC.

These two gas based furnaces have been sanctioned by the member parliament, Chandigarh at an amount of Rs. 1.09 crore from MPLAD fund, which are not only economical but eco friendly and time saving too. It requires only 17-18 kg of gas to cremate one body in one and half an hour and will cost approx. Rs. 1000/- per body which will save lot of public money and help in saving the environment also.

According to information the existing electric crematorium was installed in the year 1977 by the Chandigarh Administration with one electric furnace as pollution free alternate to cremation of bodies with wood. Another electric furnace was installed in the year 2008 as the old one was got defunct and beyond repair. The cremation of one body consume about 400 to 500 kg of wood and costs about Rs. 4000/-. The electric furnace also consumes lot of electrical energy continuously to maintain the temperature of the furnace round the clock.
