Inauguration of Clinical biochemistry Lab and High Dependency Unit at
GMCH Chandigarh

The Clinical Biochemistry Lab, Level-I, Block-B and High Dependency Unit, Level-II, Block-C in GMCH, Chandigarh were dedicated after renovation to Public service by Sh. Dharam Pal IAS, Adviser to Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Sh. Yashpal Garg IAS, SMER, U.T. Chandigarh.

The Clinical Biochemistry Lab receives samples from the IPD and OPD patients for blood, urine and body fluid analysis. It is equipped with state of art fully automated random access chemistry analyzers with a throughout of 2700 tests per hour. The samples can be analyzed for liver functions tests, kidney function tests, sugar profile, lipid profile, iron profile tests, therapeutic drug monitoring, inflammatory markers and cardiac markers. With the installation of the latest high throughout equipment the lab has added many new tests and the turn around time has also decreased for the benefit of patient care. The lab also houses other high end equipment like the gold standard HPLC based equipment to test for HbA1c crucial for the management of diabetic patients and metabolite analyzer for management of critical patients among others. The lab is committed for the improved diagnostic facilities for quality patient care.

The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is equipped with latest mechanized beds, multi para monitors & UPS donated by Rotary Club. HDU has 12 dedicated beds which are utilized for critically sick patients of Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Orthopedics & ENT. It has highly trained Nursing staff and is equipped with latest High end Ventilators, Multipara monitors and mechanized Beds. COVID patients were successfully managed in HDU especially the black fungus patients. Critical Neurosurgery patients like head injury and spine injury are being routinely managed. High risk and critical post-operative Surgical patients are also managed in HDU.
