“Empowering Tomorrow’s Innovators: BIS and NIT Kurukshetra Set the Standard for Success”

 

What’s Big Coming on 14th? A Celebration of World Standards Day!

 

In a remarkable collaboration between the Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) the different branch offices of India including Haryana Branch Office (HRBO), and the esteemed National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra—a recent event has showcased the immense potential of engaging students in the world of standardization. On October 4, 2023, a day-long workshop brought together the best minds in academia and the BIS to lay the foundation for a brighter and more standardized future.

 

The event commenced with enthusiasm as Shri Rajeev P, Deputy Director General North (DDGN), shared the objectives of MoU between BIS and NIT Kurukshetra. Director of NIT Kurukshetra, Shri B.V. Ramana Reddy, expressed gratitude for this partnership, emphasising the pivotal role standards play in sustainable development.

 

Highlights of the day were;

 

  • The engaging “BIS, Do You Know Me?” session, where faculty and students demonstrated their knowledge and enthusiasm for BIS standards.

 

  • Saurabh Tiwari, Director of Haryana Branch Office, BIS, delivered an enlightening presentation on BIS’s overview and international activities, followed by an in-depth insight into national standardization by Head, Central Marks Department of BIS

 

Despite geographical distances, DG BIS’s video conference address resonated with all attendees. He lauded the collaboration and encouraged faculty members to actively participate in standardization activities, underscoring academia’s significance in this process.

 

In addition, officers from Standardization introduced faculty members to BIS R&D projects, paving the way for future collaboration. Faculty members eagerly expressed their interest in areas like photovoltaic cells and fibre optics for joint R&D endeavours. A demonstration of BIS’s digital initiatives impressed everyone, showcasing how individuals can contribute to shaping standards through online participation.

 

Looking ahead, the Haryana Branch Office is gearing up for an exciting series of events across nine districts on October 14, 2023, celebrating World Standards Day with a special focus on Youth-to-Youth Quality Connect. They are all set to engage students and institutions, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

 

As we eagerly await the festivities on the 14th, it’s clear that  collaborative efforts of are driving the next generation of innovators towards a standardized, sustainable future. Let’s mark our calendars for a day that promises to be an inspiring celebration of World Standards Day and a testament to the power of collaboration.
