City’s Security Concerns to Be Raised Before Union Home Minister
BJP expresses concern over rising crimes in Chandigarh, questions police functioning
Chandigarh, July 9.
The issue of deteriorating law and order in Chandigarh will be raised before Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Chandigarh BJP’s media head Ravi Rawat termed the situation as alarming.
He stated that incidents of stabbings, snatchings, drug abuse, and anti-social behavior are on the rise. In Sector 40, a youth was attacked with a knife in broad daylight, and the very next day, a poor street vendor was looted of ₹7000.
He further added that parks in the city have become hubs for anti-social elements, and incidents of eve-teasing have become common. The illegal drug trade is also on the rise.
Referring to a recent incident in Ram Darbar, he said two youths were brutally attacked with swords and sticks, leading to one death. He alleged that the police are either inactive or possibly shielding such elements.
Ravi Rawat stated that senior BJP leaders will soon meet the Union Home Minister to present a detailed report and demand strict action.
