CEO GMDA Rolls Out War-Footing Drive to Boost Infrastructure, Drainage Ahead of Monsoon

• Intensive drain desilting, C&D waste and debris clearance drives across key corridors
• Multi-team deployment under close monitoring to ensure safety, cleanliness and accountability
Gurugram, 3 May: Under the direct supervision of the CEO GMDA, P.C. Meena, a decisive citywide drive has been launched on a war footing to strengthen urban infrastructure and enhance monsoon preparedness. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is undertaking extensive works to improve drainage systems, road conditions and overall urban upkeep, with a clear emphasis on accountability, quality execution, and visible on-ground results.
As per the directions of the CEO GMDA, multiple teams have been deployed across the city to undertake critical maintenance works, including desilting of drains, C&D waste clearance, repair of damaged slabs, vegetation removal and  green belt upkeep.
“This is a coordinated, multi-sectoral effort aimed at improving drainage efficiency, road conditions, and overall cleanliness across the city. Dedicated teams have been deployed to address key issues such as silt accumulation, waste clearance, infrastructure repairs, and maintenance of public spaces. With real-time monitoring and strict supervision in place, the objective is to ensure effective execution and long-term impact on ground,” said P.C. Meena.
Major Desilting Drive Restores Drainage Capacity Across Key Roads
In a focused effort to improve stormwater flow, approximately 4.1 km of surface drains along Sector 46/39/40 dividing road and 1.55 km along Sector 60/61 dividing road have been comprehensively desilted. Heavy silt deposits, sludge and accumulated debris that had significantly reduced the carrying capacity of these drains have been removed.
With the clearance of these obstructions, the drains have been restored to their optimal capacity, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted flow of stormwater into the master drainage system. This will play a critical role in preventing waterlogging, especially during periods of intense rainfall.
The desilting operations are being carried out under strict supervision to ensure depth-wise cleaning and complete removal of silt layers. Quality checks are being enforced at multiple stages, and CCTV monitoring is being simultaneously carried out to rigorously assess the effectiveness of works and ensure long-term impact.
Additionally, desilting is currently underway along the Sector 39/46 master road and other critical stretches, with teams working continuously to cover vulnerable points across the city. The focus remains on restoring full functionality and ensuring sustained drainage efficiency throughout the monsoon season.
To further enhance stormwater evacuation from main carriageways, construction of new road gullies and cleaning of existing water traps are being undertaken to enable faster channelisation of rainwater into the stormwater drainage system and reduce instances of waterlogging.
C&D Waste Clearance, Roadside Cleaning Intensified Across City
Parallelly, a large-scale drive for removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, roadside silt and debris is underway across key locations including Sector 84, Sector 102, Sector 14, Sectors 44/45, near IFFCO Metro Station and Subhash Chowk. These efforts are aimed at preventing choke points in the drainage network and ensuring uninterrupted water flow during rainfall.
Cleaning of road edges and green belts is also being undertaken to eliminate obstructions and improve overall urban conditions. Additionally, removal of wild vegetation and horticultural waste is in progress citywide, while levelling of green belts is being carried out at locations such as Atul Kataria Chowk and near IFFCO Chowk, to improve both functionality and city aesthetics.
Continuous monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to ensure adherence to quality standards and timely execution, with the objective of delivering sustained and visible improvements in Gurugram’s urban infrastructure.
