64TH ANNUAL CONVOCATION OF GOVT. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, SECTOR 20-D, CHANDIGARH

Government College of Education, Sector 20D, Chandigarh organized its 64th Annual Convocation in the college premises here today. Total 150 B.Ed. and M.Ed. students were conferred upon the degrees during this convocation.
College Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda extended welcome address to Hon’ble Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab & Administrator of U.T., Chandigarh as the Chief Guest for the event and to the Guests of Honor for the day esteemed Shri Dharam Pal, IAS, Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh and Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration.
Dr. Sapna Nanda read out the annual report of the college and highlighted the achievements of the institution in various fields. She accentuated the efforts of the faculty, students and other staff members of the college in furthering and fulfilling the educational objectives of the college.
Shri Banwarilal Purohit in his convocation address congratulated the graduates (B.Ed.) and post graduates (M.Ed.) and the faculty members of the college for their indigenous efforts. He motivated the young teachers to fortify the virtues of discipline, honesty and integrity in their character in order to justify themselves to their endeavour of choosing this noble profession. He said that the teacher has the responsibility and opportunity at the same time, to encourage the pursuit of learning and overall improvement of education system. Further, he added that holding the degree is not an end but it’s just a milestone towards a long and successful journey. As he quoted from scriptures ‘Aacharya devo bhava’ and inspired them to act as students for life to learn consistently and grow as an individual. He referred to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam as an example and emphasized that not only intellectual development but character building should also be the focus of teachers of modern times due to major influence of social media on the present generation. He highlighted that Bhagavad Gita, the only scripture that has been pronounced by the Lord Shri Krishna himself acts as a guiding principle for the teachers to work in a dedicated manner.
Prizes were awarded to the students who secured various positions in the University examinations. In B.Ed., for the session 2019-21-Swati secured first position, Sushmita Malhotra second and Priya Mann got third place and for the session 2020-22, Anshita secured first position, Prateeksha second and Simran Khosla got third position. In M.Ed., for the session 2019-21-Damini Shori secured first position, Shweta Sengar second and Shivani Pathania got third place and for the session 2020-22, Kunsang Dorjee secured first position, Manju Saini second and Rinku Yadav got third position. All the students who received degrees secured first division in the Panjab University, Examinations.
The occasion was also marked by the book release entitled ‘Integral Education for Quality Teaching’ to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo.
The convocation of the college was carried out successfully under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh.
