Chandigarh: Senior BJP leader and former Punjab Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that the Union Budget 2026–27 provides Punjab with a clear mandate to accelerate growth through disciplined execution, youth empowerment and sector-driven development.
Sodhi said the Budget reinforces a fundamental governance principle fiscal discipline combined with decisive reforms is the foundation of strong economies. “At a time of global uncertainty, the balance between prudence and growth strengthens India’s resilience and restores long term investor confidence,” he said.
He welcomed the continued emphasis on public capital expenditure, infrastructure expansion and manufacturing led growth, noting that logistics, energy security and domestic manufacturing will drive sustainable employment. Measures supporting MSMEs, startups and ease of doing business, he added, deepen the foundations of Atmanirbhar Bharat by enabling enterprise and innovation.
For Punjab, Sodhi said the Budget opens a clear pathway for economic renewal. He identified agri value chains, manufacturing clusters and logistics corridors as immediate priorities. Highlighting textiles, he said modernising textile clusters and integrating them with skilling and export ecosystems can generate large scale employment, particularly for youth and women.
Placing youth and sports at the centre of Punjab’s future, Sodhi said focused investments in sports infrastructure, training systems and education linked pathways can help the state reclaim its leadership in national and international sports. “Sports-led development builds discipline, livelihoods and global recognition- Punjab has the talent and must now provide the ecosystem,” he said.
He stressed that success will depend on strong execution, cooperative federalism and technology driven governance. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sodhi said India’s march towards Viksit Bharat is decisive. “With alignment and purposeful governance, Punjab can lead India’s next phase of growth,” he said.
