Melodious santoor & splendid Bharatnatyam duet dance enliven the Day 3 of 54th All India Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan
On the third day of the 54th Bhaskar Rao Sammelan, the mesmerizing santoor recital and beautiful Bharatanatyam duet dance presentation mesmerized the city audience. Music and dance is a medium that connects different cultures and also provides joy to the artists and connoisseurs associated with it. The 54th Bhaskar Rao Sammelan , organized by the Pracheen Kala Kendra at the Tagore Theater, is doing a wonderful job of connecting these cultural regions. Today’s evening was studded with the performances of Pandit Abhay Rustam Sopori, son and disciple of the famous Santoor exponent Pandit Bhajan Sopori, and Samrat Dutta and Shantanu Roy prominent Bharatnatyam dance exponents who gave a glimpse of the South Indian dance style.
Today’s program was graced by Sh. Vijay Namdev Zade, Secretary Expenditure , Finance Department, Government of Punjab as the Chief Guest.
Today’s programme started with Pandit Abhay Sopori expanding the melodious Raga “Marwa” through traditional Alaap with Jod and Jhaala and then presenting some beautiful compositions which won him huge applause. He easily connected the audience with his music by presenting beautiful compositions in Jhaap taal and Drut Teen taal. Abhay gave a wonderful performance of playing the Santoor by presenting compositions studded with melodic layakaries. Abhay concluded his recital with a melodious. He was accompanied by Tabla Maestro Ustad Akram Khan who added charm to the concert.
After this, Samrat and Shantanu took the centre stage and commenced with invocatory piece “ invocation of Anjali through “Margam” which was a homage to Lord Shri Ram through devotional music. In this composition, Pushpanjali “Anlali Logo Mor Sangeete” in Bengali, composed by the great Muslim poet “Kazi Nazrul Islam”, both duos paid homage to the Lord Rama through their dance . This composition was composed in Raag-Tilang and set to Taal- Chatushr Ekam. In the middle part of the performance, a varnam composed by great musician Sri Sitaram Sharma performed in Raga Todi and Taal adi was presented, in this piece various episodes of Ramayana were depicted through dance where “Shri Ram Chandra”, Sabari, Kaikeyi, Dasharatha, Ravana, Vishwamitra Muni, Taraka and many more are highlighted with the richness of varnam. They concluded the program beautifully by presenting a Bhajan Jai Narayan Brahma Parayan Sripati Kamala Kantam composed by Surdas. They were accompanied by the accompanists Mohana Iyer (Nattuvangam), Venkateswara Kupuswamy (Vocal), Vignesh Jayaram (Mridangam) and Samay Kanan on violin. The audience was mesmerized by this performance. At the end of the program, the artists were honored with uttariya and mementoes. On the fourth day of the sammelan, Pt. Rajendra Prasanna (Flute) and Guru Durga Charan Ranbir & troupe (Odissi Dance) will perform tomorrow. Registrar and Secretary and chief guest honored the artists.
