Chandigarh: Livasa Hospital Mohali successfully performed minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS CABG) on a 68-year-old male patient with a complex cardiac history, including three previous stents placed in the same main LAD artery.
The patient had earlier undergone multiple PTCA procedures, with his last stent placed eight years ago. Recently, he began experiencing severe chest discomfort and intense pain once again. After consultations at multiple centers, he was advised to undergo conventional open-heart surgery. Hesitant about a major surgical procedure, the patient and his family approached Livasa Hospital Mohali seeking alternative treatment options.
After detailed evaluation, the cardiac team led by Dr. Ishant Singla consultant–CTVS, Livasa Hospital Mohali , successfully performed minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting, using a small incision, avoiding full sternotomy. The procedure involved a LIMA-to-LAD graft, offering faster recovery and reduced surgical trauma.
The surgery was conducted with support from Dr. Vikram Arora, cardiac anesthesia) along with the experienced CTVS and critical care teams. The patient recovered well post-operatively and was discharged in a stable condition.
Dr. Ishant Singla said that minimally invasive cardiac surgery is a game changer for selected patients, especially those who are apprehensive about traditional open-heart surgery.
