Dr. Sandeep Patel Receives ‘Excellence in Orthopaedics’ Award at 6th Entrepreneur & Achiever Awards 2025
Dr. Sandeep Patel, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at PGIMER, Chandigarh, was honoured with the ‘Excellence in Orthopaedics’ Award at the 6th Entrepreneur & Achiever Awards 2025, jointly organized by the Media Federation of India (MFI) and the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).
The award was presented by Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, along with Sardar Satnam Singh Sandhu, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, during a grand ceremony held in Chandigarh.
Dr. Patel was recognized for his pioneering contributions in Regenerative Orthopaedics, innovative hip implant design, and landmark research in foot and ankle trauma, including several fracture patterns and classifications now named after him.
Some of his key achievements from 2024–2025 include:
HIPFIX-MABP: A patented modular implant for hip fractures, designed to overcome fixation challenges and reduce failure rates.
Patel-Sharma Fracture Fragment: A newly described ankle fracture involving PITFL avulsion—Dr. Patel is the first Indian orthopaedic surgeon to have a fracture named after him.
Patel-Dhillon Classification (2024) A novel classification system for anterior malleolus fractures, published in the European Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
FABER Classification: First to describe three new variants of trimalleolar ankle fractures.
Superdose PRP for Knee Osteoarthritis: Dr. Patel’s research defined the optimal platelet dose (>5 billion) for PRP therapy. His landmark 2013 publication in the American Journal of Sports Medicine remains the most cited PRP study by an Indian orthopaedic surgeon.
Gold Medal – Indian Orthopaedic Association: Awarded for his acclaimed preclinical research on PRP in knee osteoarthritis.
