Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Organizes Capacity Building Programme in Kaithal

Kaithal, 7 May: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Haryana Branch Office, successfully organized a one-day Capacity Building Programme at the District Secretariat, Kaithal. The objective of the programme was to sensitize district-level officials—particularly those from the Department of Women and Child Development and the Food Safety Department—about the importance of standards and quality, and to encourage their effective application in public welfare schemes.

The programme was conducted under the able guidance of Ms. Preeti, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kaithal, whose leadership and support played a pivotal role in the impactful execution of the event. Mr. Deepak Babulal Karwa, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kaithal, also graced the occasion with his presence. In his address, he emphasized the critical need to adopt standardization at the grassroots level to enhance service quality and ensure the effective delivery of welfare schemes to the last mile.

The event began with a welcome address and introductory presentation by Ms. Aarti Chaudhary, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS Haryana Branch Office, where she outlined the key discussion points of the programme. The technical session was led by Mrs. Navita Yadav, Scientist-E and Director, BIS Haryana Branch Office, who provided in-depth insights on the following topics:
1. The functioning and role of BIS in India
2. Standards related to women and child welfare, such as safety and hygiene standards for Anganwadi and childcare centres
3. Mandatory food safety standards and their application in government nutrition schemes and the Public Distribution System (PDS)

A live demonstration of the ‘BIS Care’ mobile app was also conducted to technically empower participants in quality assessment. The demonstration guided attendees on how to identify certified products, register complaints, and access consumer information.

The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session followed by a vote of thanks. BIS reiterated its commitment to creating a culture of quality and standardization through such initiatives and assured continued collaboration with the local administration for future programmes.
