Pertinently, UT Administrator had given his nod to the draft last thursday while lauding the department for proposing much needed significant enhancement in Cash Awards for players, coaches and scholarships to students. The deserving inputs from public will be put to discussion and those suited to further improve the quality of the Policy will be incorporated in the final document.
The Draft Policy envisages several path-breaking Initiatives including setting up of world-class Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Centre, besides a dedicated facility for taking care of Psychological and Mental Well Being of Sportspersons. To further incentivise sportspersons to give their best for the nation, a special honour as Administrator’s Award for Excellence in Sports – besides the enhanced Cash Awards – would be presented for extra-ordinary accomplishments in a particular year.
Set up in 1982, the Policy will lend a formal sports blueprint to UT Sports Department. Nurturing and grooming of existing and budding sports talent in a strategic manner is our overarching aim for which we will ensure optimum utilisation of existing sports infrastructure pool across diverse disciplines; with equal focus on creating top notch sporting infrastructure in coming year, Director Sports added.
