Senior national health mission officials of Uttarakhand to undertake exposure visit to Taiwan to learn best practices in health sector

‘This is first of its kind leadership program in health sector wherein senior health officials of Uttarakhand shall visit Taiwan and learn good practices in health sector for overall improvement of various national health programs in the state, said Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director and Professor at Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh on the eve of 5 Day Executive Leadership Program being organised by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh in collaboration with national Taiwan university from 5th to 10th February 2023. This flagship program in public health is conducted under the broad umbrella of International Public Health Management Development Program being conducted by PGIMER Chandigarh, where over 1000 international participants from 161 ITEC countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Pacific and Small Island countries have been trained in India over the last 6 years. We believe in ancient Indian philosophy ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ i.e. world is one family, wherein we are trying to build South- South development cooperation along with solid foundation and relationships with ITEC countries, said Professor Goel. In the year 2021, 20 high achiever NHM officials of Odisha state were exposed to Thailand’s best practises with the help of Mahidol University, Thialand, wherein they successfully replicated them in Odisha to improve their national programs.
Health Minister of Uttarakhand ‘Mr. Dhan Singh Rawat’ expressed gratitude to PGIMER Chandigarh to organise such vital program in health sector where a team of 13 high level officials shall visit 8 institutes of Taiwan and learn community-based health promotion and injury prevention, diabetes shared care network, BMI control program, non-communicable disease risk factor control program, tuberculosis control and impact of COVID-19 on tuberculosis, emergency care network in rural area, the ambulance drill, and surveillance of emerging infectious diseases.
We will adopt Taiwan’s best practises in a number of areas which are contextual to Uttarakhand state including community public health networks, the use of IT in public health, leadership development, and the management of emerging infectious and non-communicable diseases, said Dr. Saroj Naithani, Mission Director, NHM, Uttarakhand who is leading the delegation to Taiwan. The program will also improve leadership and management capacity of our officials for addressing public health challenges and boosting organisational effectiveness in resource-constrained environments, she said.
The program shall be taught by eminent faculty of the National Taiwan University, Environmental Protection Administration, Health Promotion Administration, National Health insurance Administration, Tobacco control institute, Cancer prevention institute, Taiwan centres for Disease Control ,Centre of Public Health and Emergency care network, which are top level institutes in health sector in Taiwan. The participants shall also undertake field visits to community to learn on-the-ground health care practices. The participants shall make an action plan for their states for next one year based upon the learnings at Taiwan.
