A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, Chief Secretary ( in-charge), UT Chandigarh, to review the city’s response in view of heavy rainfall and to strengthen disaster preparedness measures.

The Chief Secretary (in Charge) directed officials to continuously assess and monitor the situation, with special attention to vulnerable points. He instructed that water levels at Patiala Ki Rao be closely tracked and timely warnings issued to low-lying areas, if required.

The Police Department was asked to ensure proper traffic regulation and safety measures in waterlogged stretches. While the Municipal Corporation is preparing tenders to repair all the damaged roads before the on-set of winters, as an emergent measure it was directed to fill was directed to fill potholes to prevent accidents. The Deputy Commissioner was tasked with coordinating with NDRF and Civil Defence teams for timely support, wherever necessary.

The Health Department was directed to ensure an adequate supply of medicines and staff, keeping in view the possible increase in patient inflow from neighbouring states due to the recent heavy rains. Departments were also asked to maintain availability of emergency response teams, deploy machinery for quick relief operations, and avoid creating unnecessary panic.

Sh Mandip Singh Brar reaffirmed that the Administration’s top priority is citizens’ safety and well-being, with full commitment to timely assistance, effective preparedness, and a resilient Chandigarh.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Prerna Puri, Secretary Engineering; Sh. Ajay Chagti, Health Secretary; Sh. Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner; Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP; and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration.
