Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh Sh Gulab Chand Kataria  Reviews Progress of “Ped Lagao Ped Bachao” Plantation Drive Under Green Action Plan.

Chandigarh, August 26, 2025:
In a review meeting held today, the  Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, took stock of the ongoing large-scale tree plantation initiative launched under the banner “Ped Lagao Ped Bachao” as part of the Green Action Plan of the Chandigarh Administration.

During the review, it was informed that,
to safeguard the young saplings, fencing and tree guards have been installed, and the Horticulture Wing of the Engineering Department is supervising the implementation to ensure long-term sustainability.

Tree plantation target has already been met across key locations including Mango Garden adjoining Rajendra Garden (Sector 1), Palm Garden, Conifer Garden, Spring Garden and Leisure Valley (Sector 51), Jan Marg, Madhya Marg, Uttar Marg, Vikas Marg, Dakshin Marg, Route No. 2, PR-4 Road, Government School Kajheri, Sukhna Lake, GMCH Sector 32, and IT Park.

Shri Kataria directed that the momentum of the campaign must continue and stressed the importance of involving citizens, schools, and institutions to foster a collective sense of ownership towards the environment.

It was further shared that shrub plantations will continue in areas such as N-Choe, High Court vicinity, Jan Marg, and Vikas Marg in the coming weeks to achieve the final plantation goal by August 2025.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary (in-charge),Sh.Mandip Singh Brar , Principal Secretary to the Governor Sh Vivek Pratap Singh, Special Secretary to the Governor Sh.Sh. Abhijit Vijay Chaudhari.
